Competition project for a new mixed use building
Milano, Italy, 2016
Design team: BN studio Arch. S. Ballardini, Arch. R. Nana, Arch. A. Marelli, Arch. G. Ciuffo, Arch. I. Belmonte
A context without recognizable urban qualities and its rapid evolution have required an innovative approach to the project.
The new building is raised from the floor and opens itself to continuous relations with the surroundings, forming a covered space of a public nature where to concentrate services and accesses. This space, completely free from structural obstructions, intends to offer itself as the first piece of a desirable network of public spaces.
At the northern part of the area is scheduled a thickly planted garden, which proportions have defined the measures of the patios and all together conform a segment of the future green corridors, where also an accessible green roof will be integrated.
The facades, based on a clear constructive geometry, are able to adapt to different light conditions and context changes.
The implemented technological details are based on the following criteria:
Reduction of energy requirements, environmental impact and execution time
Simplifying of maintenance and management
Constructive flexibility
To achieve these objectives it was essential the extended use of construction techniques based on the assembly of dry components: the building consists of prefabricated concrete bases, steel trusses and stratified curtain walls.
Particular attention was paid to flexibility at interior spaces, which are free of continuous structural elements to easily adapt to changing user needs, by simply dismantling and moving dividing prefabricated walls.
The project also proposes the use of alternative energy sources such as hydrothermal energy, photovoltaic and solar thermal systems to produce heat , electricity and sanitary hot water.
